Amish Designers Shop Tour

This is Where The Beauty Begins

There are no idle hands in our currently all-Amish shop in Lancaster, County Pennsylvania.  At any one time, we have from 5 to as many as 20 structures moving through the shop.  There is an assembly-line approach where each man has his job and where everyone pitches in to help when needed.

The Amish are very good at handling tricky angles and working with precision.  That’s why many builders from around the country order our kits.  They can’t make them for what we do here.  Also, we buy wood like a lumber yard, truckloads at a time.

Not every shop does what we do though.  Nearly every piece of wood that comes into our shop is re-milled to precise dimensions.  This makes for a better fit, it is easier for us, or for you to put together, and the material is more likely to stay together without pulling on the fasteners.

Efficiency is another reason why we use the wood we use.  It might be a little cheaper to sort out the good boards from cheaper lumber, but we would just rather use the best and have our skilled craftsmen doing better things that sorting through piles of lumber.  Even the youngest member of our shop has been around for several years and can do several jobs.  We don’t have time to sort through inferior lumber.
